    Default Inspections Department Manager

    Position Summary

    The Inspection Department Manager is a newly created position tasked with establishing a new department responsible for the process of scheduling, coordinating and managing the inspection of applicant installed gas distribution construction projects. This position is focused on establishing and driving standardized processes, forms and people conducting the inspections for all gas distribution and applicant installed work as well as capturing and managing and ensuring successful work flow. Responsibilities include establishing quality control and ensuring order and consistency for a successful and safe operation. This position is an integral and strategic partner in the management and organization of this major utilities construction inspection process essential to the safety of the gas network. The Manager will also drive the development and implementation distribution inspection training, on-boarding and QC processes.

    The Manager will work with various internal and external stakeholders, including Customer Service Planning, Engineering and Project Management to establish and maintain a complete, accurate and controlled portfolio of distribution and applicant installed projects to be inspected by the Gas Construction Management Organization. This position will also ensure that all inspection and construction management needs are met on all projects. After successful department establishment, these processes will be implemented into each division ultimately standardizing the whole territory. This position reports directly to the Gas Construction Management Operations Manager.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:
    · 10 years of relevant work experience
    · Bachelor’s degree Engineering, Construction Management, Business or equivalent experience
    · 5 years of experience at supervisory level or above
    · Experience in change management
    · Proficient with Microsoft Suite, scheduling software and construction management systems
    · Effectively plan, organize and prioritize work, complete tasks accurately and on time and effectively solve problems when needed
    · Operate at a detailed level, organize and multi-task
    · Previous experience with engineering/procurement/inspection/ construction projects or programs
    · Understanding of construction contracts and sub-contractor environments
    · Demonstrated success of interpersonal, communication and organizations skills
    · Detail oriented, analytical, good verbal and written communication skills including mentoring skills
    · Strong communication skills interacting with team members and management
    · Toubleshoot problems independently, suggest solutions when challenges arise
    · Advanced understanding of the impact(s) of change to the collective business processes across functional units
    · Broad understanding of all relevant business processes of department
    · Result oriented and “can-do” attitude; passion for customer satisfaction
    · Travel to multiple locations for meetings and field support at least 25% of the time

    Additional Desired Attributes:
    · A strong background in gas and/or electrical distribution engineering, design, construction and contracting
    · Proficient in the use of MS Project, P6, Prolog and Unifier
    · Ability to handle challenging work environment, time demands and conflicting priorities
    · Adaptable to changing environments and ability to quickly learn new technologies
    · Understanding of cost accounting, budgeting and contract implementation process
    · Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently
    · Demonstrated understanding of financial structure including capital vs. expense
    · Passion for customer focus, satisfaction and results
    · Experience in a contractor environment
    · Experience in a project management position including the creation of workflow and procedures
    · Ability to write, review and evaluate technical construction specifications
    · Ability to adjust to changing business needs, conditions and responsibilities while meeting challenging deadlines

    Roles and Responsibilities



    · Organize and define the department, creating a disciplined and organized structure that manages the inspection activities and processes for the gas T&D projects; establish quality control, create order and drive consistency resulting in a successful and safe operation
    · Establish and maintain a complete and accurate portfolio of distribution and applicant installed projects capturing, managing and tracking the work and successful work flow; capture all projects into a master portfolio , ensuring the accurate coordination, tracking and release of work/projects
    · Develop and implement standardized inspection processes and forms
    · Develop and implement distribution inspection training and QC processes, manual(s) and forms
    · Standardize processes, forms and people conducting inspections
    · Drive change of control of inspection assignment management from division yards to the CM Organization , ensuring no interruption in service
    · Maintain relationships with project management group ensuring accurate inspection requirements are communicated to Regional Construction Managers (RCM’s) and other stakeholders and that all inspections and construction services are completed on time
    · Ensure inspection & CM estimates are prepared in accordance with company standards and job estimates accurately reflect the CM and inspection resources required to provide adequate inspection and oversight to each project
    · Work with RCM’s and CM’s to ensure adequate inspection resources are available and all projects requiring inspection are adequately staffed
    · Work with local teams ensuring qualified inspection resources are available and deployed meeting inspection needs
    · Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance, provide insight, support and guidance where needed
    · Provide mentorship and guidance to less experienced employees
    · Attend other departments and groups meetings and represent the CM organization effectively
    · Attend and conduct project bid walks and construction site meetings as necessary
    · Walk major projects at 30%, 60% and 90% design and provide constructability review comments and input to Site Specific Safety Plans as required
    · Coach and mentor less experienced employees

    This is a direct hire, long term position located in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA and will require relocation.
